DIY wood arch
Making a wooden garden arch for a summer residence is simple. The main thing is to decide on the design. The arch can be square, rounded and with corners.
Work begins with the preparation of material and the necessary tools. We make an arch from a bar, the section directly determines the strength of the future structure. The arch can even be made of plywood with a thickness of 1 cm. If desired, a roof is made for the arch at the entrance to the site. The material can be any, plywood, plastic or boards.
Required tool: jigsaw, saw or hacksaw for wood, screwdriver. Marks on the tree are made with a pencil, roulette is also needed. For a garden arch with roses, a pergola is created - a lattice, with cells up to 15 cm.
Marking is best done right on the site, it is easier to choose the right size for the structure. First, bars of the required length are sawn off for racks, they are strengthened in the ground at the right distance. Thus, immediately there is an idea of what will turn out in the end. The shape of the upper part of the arch is determined, the bars are cut in the necessary way.
The rule is simple - the arch is symmetrical from the central axis, and further can have any height, width and depth. All parts are fastened with bars.

If a strong and reliable, solid construction is required, welding is used. A round or shaped metal pipe, a welding machine, metal grinding equipment will be required. Metal products necessarily require corrosion protection, it can just be paint with anti-corrosion additives.
A project for work is better to choose ready-made, indicating all sizes. Next, the desired size metal parts of the arch.
If you need a semicircular arch, with smooth bends, you need a pipe bender tool. He will also help in creating jewelry and curls for the arch. The pipe bender can be mechanical and hydraulic, the second greatly facilitates the process.
Welding can be carried out independently, only having professional skills. Wizards for this work are easiest to find in auto repair shops. The finished arch is installed in place, the base is concreted.
Plastic arch
A plastic arch is another easy-to-manufacture option. Wooden cross-pieces are connected in pairs by vertical frames, inclined and upper horizontal. At the end of assembly, it should be varnished. The finished product is dug into the ground by 30-40 cm.
The advantage of a wooden arch made by yourself is that it can be easily repaired, moved to another place in the garden, modified. The tree looks organically in any landscape. In any case, a self-made garden arch will become a beautiful and unique decoration of a suburban area.

Arches - of course, it’s an incomparably competent thing, since there is a courtyard itself, and in the courtyard there are a couple of arches, on which roses quietly climb. Roses in the yard - about 20 species. Without arches, some climbing roses will simply not survive. After searching for information on the Internet, I decided to cut down, as they say, such on your site - the benefit of the area allows you to do this. I chose two types of material: one arch made of wood, the second - from a metal profile. Of course, the second will be more reliable, since metal is more durable than wood. Nevertheless, already ten years have passed, as the arches stand themselves and calmly live. Of course, in the fall… More details »
I agree with you Ed) The metal structure of the arch will last much longer than the wooden one, and correctly machined will be almost eternal. At the dacha, I decorated the path to the house with metal arches and painted it with “tikkurilla” - it protects the metal very well from atmospheric influences, and now it's been the thirteenth year, and they look like new. How could wood compare? ) I think no )
There are two arches in my garden, both wooden, semicircular. Classic, so to speak) I love them because in the garden it’s immediately more comfortable with them, there is a feeling of a fairy tale or something. Both of my arches are twined with decorative grapes. I want to put iron in front of the apple alley, but I have not decided yet whether I want to decorate it with greenery too or if the arch itself will be enough. In the pictures, of course, both options look attractive
