DIY bench (85 photos): use in landscaping and do-it-yourself construction
Can a garden do without a comfortable recreation area where the owners in the shade of the trees sit on a bright bench and enjoy the floral aromas? No, therefore, the question "how to make a bench with your own hands?" Becomes relevant in our time.
It turns out that making such a place is not difficult, and the basis for it can serve not only polished logs or boards, but also improvised materials.
Simple circuit
The simplest drawings of the bench in production are a long sitting on two or three legs. Moreover, two chocks and several polished boards of the desired width are usually chosen in the base. The algorithm is simple: install the supports at the required distance and fix the seat on them.
To complement the design with a back, holders are fixed to the seat from two opposite sides, to which light smooth boards are nailed. After installation, the product is painted and varnished.
By the way, the wooden base is a classic, with many variations: folded boards in the form of the letters “X”, “H”, “P” or inverted “T”, standard rectangular legs, thick bars or saw cuts.
Original options
But not everyone will place a standard and banal shop in his garden, being afraid to upset the harmony and aesthetics of the floral atmosphere.
As a rule, most gardening masters do not forget to turn on fantasy, while paying attention to the amount of materials available and things and objects that are not involved in the farm.
Below are some original ideas with which your recreation area will be not only comfortable and practical, but also beautiful and unusual.
Idea # 1 - Stone Foundation
The budget shop is made of cheap materials. And what could be cheaper than stones lying everywhere? Two options are most relevant here: masonry and gabion.
Masonry allows you to experiment with the configuration, bends, armrests and the back of the bench. For this, you can take uneven boulders, and sawn stone. Cobblestones stack in random order and are fastened with concrete mortar.
On such a solid and sometimes cold basis, it is better to use soft pillows that will add not only comfort, but also style and colors.
Of no less interest is the gobion - a rectangular grid filled with stone, gravel or pebbles. A wooden seat is subsequently superimposed over such a support.
Idea # 2 - Flowerbed Bench
The “natural” bench, towering among the flower beds, fits perfectly into the garden setting. For such a composition, supports in the form of concrete flower beds or wooden boxes filled with earth and a board will be needed. For example, concrete bases can be placed in two tiers: rectangular down and short cubic on top of them, and wooden ones can simply be installed on both sides of the bench.
The bench seat is made of wood, more precisely, from a section of boards of the required length and width. If there is a wide surface, then we use it, laying on top of the supports.
In order to make a full-fledged place from stacks, they are stacked after 0.5 cm and connected by transverse slats at the edges and in the middle.
Idea # 3 - Extra Long Chairs
Pictures of benches from elongated chairs will definitely interest DIY-lovers. An original product in the form of a sofa with graceful fences can be made following the algorithm:
- Find four old unclaimed chairs with a back;
- Remove front parts from two products;
- For the rest, it is necessary to saw off the front legs, leaving the seat itself intact;
- We make the necessary actions with the material: stripping, grinding, polishing;
- From the end of the deprived legs of the chairs and from the edges of the removed parts we drill holes into which we insert the dowels lubricated with glue;
- We assemble the bench, inserting the details from the first chairs into the main elements, continuing the general design;
- Fix the assembly with screws;
- An equal length or width board or bonded pieces are laid on top, glued with carpentry glue;
- Primed, painted, treated with stain and varnish.
You can simplify the process by using only two chairs, in which the front legs are removed, and the remaining parts are securely fastened to each other.
Idea # 4 - Uncutched Log
It is not always required from the garden bench to be sophisticated and graceful, because often it is rough and uncouth objects that fit in perfectly with the natural environment.
For example, the following option provides a product from a thick meter log. It is sawn along two unequal parts: the seat and back.
Triangular recesses are cut from the two sides of each element, into which holders are later inserted. To install the bench on the legs in the lower part, holes are made for supports in the form of logs.
Of course, if you have experience working with wood, then in the whole trunk you can cut the whole bench as well.
Often, tree branches are used as the main material. So, a large number of rods are fixed into a single unit of a round or rectangular shape, after which they give it stability and decorate with a beautiful seat made of timber or boards, a creative body, armrests and backrest.
Idea # 5 - Curved Pipes
Often in the yard are unclaimed and profile rounded pipes. They can also be used as the basis for a garden bench.
The procedure looks like this:
- We bend two letters “P”, identical in length to the pipe, with the legs should be within 15-20 cm, and the backrest should be as long as possible.
- We paint metal in any color.
- We prepare identical boards about 40 cm long.
- We fix them on the pipes using bolts for furniture with a flat hat, having previously drilled holes for them.
- The bench from the pipe is ready.
In addition to such a bench, a table is also executed according to a similar algorithm. True, the proportions increase: the height of the legs is set to a mark of at least 70 cm, and the width of the planks is on average about 60-100 cm.
Finishing any garden gives the arrangement of a special recreation area. Of course, a spacious gazebo will be the best solution, but it’s much more economical and easier to build a couple of benches. Moreover, the presence of original ideas allows you to make them not only as unusual as possible, but also convenient and comfortable.
